Chris Mays

Director

Chris supports our consulting practice in the areas of powertrain technology, emissions, regulatory affairs, and strategic matters. Chris brings extensive engineering expertise across a variety of disciplines focused on the automotive and heavy-duty market sectors. This experience was built over a 30-year career working at Ford Motor Company, Ricardo Inc., and most recently at BorgWarner.

During his time at Ford Motor Company, Chris led several product development programs related to internal combustion engines – particularly in the areas pertaining to technology selections, engine performance, emissions compliance, process and quality improvements, and cost reductions. Chris also worked extensively to develop technology roadmaps and deliver client projects for the on- and off-road heavy-duty market sectors  during his time at Ricardo, a global strategic, environmental, and engineering consultancy. At BorgWarner, a leading Tier 1 supplier to the automotive and heavy-duty industries, Chris was a trusted leader who developed future technology roadmaps in support of the company’s business units. Chris also led a variety of advanced engineering programs including the development of a class 5 battery-electric powered concept truck. Further, Chris was the technical lead for regulatory matters at BorgWarner – including interpretation of regulations, impact assessments and advocacy to the regulatory agencies.

Chris holds a Master’s degree in Automotive Systems Engineering from Loughborough University, UK. Chris is a Chartered Engineer and member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK) and a member of the SAE COMVEC Executive Organizing Committee.
